Red Cross Shelter Open in Cocoa as Brevard County Flooding Displaces Residents, Nov. 2-3
Torrential rain produced 16 to 22 inches across southern Brevard County on Nov. 2, 2026, flooding communities from Melbourne south to Grant-Valkaria and forcing school closures and emergency rescues. The American Red Cross opened an emergency shelter in Cocoa providing cots, blankets, meals and personal care items at no cost for residents displaced by floodwaters in Palm Bay, Cocoa and surrounding areas. Palm Bay issued a shelter-in-place advisory as floodwaters overwhelmed streets, and police and fire crews used boats and high-water rescue vehicles to evacuate trapped residents. Brevard County Emergency Management is coordinating transportation to the shelter; residents can call 1-800-RED-CROSS for assistance. Additional rain was possible through Tuesday morning with scattered showers expected Wednesday, though chances decrease from Thursday through the weekend.
