Two Detainees Mistakenly Released, Recovered at Baker County Immigration Facility
Florida Division of Emergency Management confirmed that an administrative error bonded out two detainees from Deportation Depot, a state-run immigration detention facility in Sanderson (Baker County), over the weekend. Both individuals were quickly located and returned to custody, with FDEM stating there is no ongoing threat to the public. The facility, operated under a $101 million contract with GEO|CDR BAKER, currently holds about 1,000 detainees in the former Baker Correctional Institute, roughly 40 miles west of Jacksonville. State documents show approximately $32 million has been paid on the contract as of Sept. 22.
