$21.6M Judgment Against Fort Worth Builder Over Sewer Gas Defects in Weatherford Home
A jury on Oct. 13 awarded Ronny and Mandy McCoy of Weatherford $21.6 million against Fort Worth-based NAE Contracting, Ricky Dauenhauer, and related parties for construction defects in their 2018 home. Court filings state that plumbing vents were improperly terminated into the attic, allowing hydrogen sulfide and methane sewer gases to circulate throughout the house, causing mold and health problems including migraines and respiratory issues. The McCoys' attorney said the home must be razed and rebuilt; the family is currently living in an RV on the property. Prestige Plumbing of Weatherford, which installed the plumbing system, disputes liability, saying NAE Contracting instructed a delay in extending vents through the roof.
