Arlington Woman Sentenced to 30 Years for Deaths at Unlicensed Boarding Homes

Regla Suyu "Su" Becquer, former owner of several unlicensed boarding homes in Arlington, Texas, pleaded guilty Monday to criminally negligent homicide, financial abuse of the elderly, theft of property, and abandoning or endangering an individual. At least 13 people died while at or after leaving her homes, according to warrants filed in the case. Arlington police arrested Becquer in 2024 after receiving multiple reports, including a November 2023 incident on Woodbrook Street where a man was found fallen in a backyard and two other patients were inside. Since her arrest, two new Texas state laws took effect: one criminalizing operation of unlicensed assisted living facilities and another imposing the first state rules on senior placement agents.
