Texas Voter Registration Backlog Cleared Before Early Voting Begins Monday
Texas election officials announced Thursday that a massive backlog of voter registration applications, caused by a software glitch at the Texas Department of Public Safety beginning last October, has been cleared days before early voting starts Monday. The error failed to transmit hundreds of thousands of records—including over 75,000 in Harris County—to applicants' home counties for processing. Counties hired temporary workers to handle the surge during an unusually competitive midterm election season. Officials confirmed no county has pending applications, and voters not on rolls can still cast provisional ballots.
