UCF Fined $100K by Big 12 Over Anti-LDS Chants at Football Game

The University of Central Florida in Orlando was fined $100,000 by the Big 12 athletic conference on a Wednesday after students performed discriminatory chants targeting BYU's connection to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints during a Saturday home football game. Students reportedly yelled anti-LDS slurs multiple times, including as an injured BYU player was carried off the field, before UCF Security removed those responsible. The Big 12 directed the fine toward student education initiatives and announced new conference-wide policy changes that include escalating fines up to $500,000 and season-long event bans for repeat discriminatory conduct. Stiffy's Instagram account was marked 'unavailable' as of Oct. 24. Owners said Meta cited Community Standards without specifying which posts violated policies; Anthem and Savoy were eventually restored after appeals, though owners described the process as opaque. The suspensions follow a broader pattern of queer-owned businesses in St. Petersburg, Austin, New York, and San Francisco reporting similar account disruptions.
