Florida Lawmakers Reverse Support for Property-Tax Amendment 3
Florida Senate President Ben Albritton and former Senate President Kathleen Passidomo have come out against Amendment 3, a statewide ballot measure creating a $250,000 homestead exemption that they previously supported. Albritton said the property-tax cut would gut funding for law enforcement and services in rural counties, while Passidomo told a Naples business group she believes voters should replace local officials rather than amend the constitution. The Florida League of Cities estimated cuts exceeding 90% in more than 100 cities, with Bowling Green in Hardee County projected to see over 90% of homesteaded properties moved off general-services tax rolls.
