Harris County DA Says ICE Officer Appeared to Intentionally Strike Man in Houston
Harris County District Attorney Sean Teare said Wednesday that surveillance footage shows an ICE officer driving a Jeep Cherokee over a median and into Miguel Parra Hernandez, 48, a Mexican construction worker who was fleeing on foot during a Saturday immigration enforcement operation in Houston. Parra Hernandez suffered a broken leg and needs ankle surgery; he remains in ICE custody at the hospital. Teare said ICE destroyed potential crash data by removing the vehicle from the scene and that his office is evaluating charges including assault with a deadly weapon, with a charging decision expected next week. ICE called the allegations "reckless" and "false," maintaining Parra Hernandez ran in front of the vehicle. The incident follows a July fatal shooting by a federal immigration officer also under Harris County investigation.
