A new wildfire, named the Ridge Fire, was reported at 11:48 p.m. on Oct. 17 in Yuba County, California. The fire is burning on federal land managed by the United States Forest Service. As of the initial report, there is no information regarding containment efforts, and the cause of the fire has not been determined.

Marysville held a groundbreaking ceremony Friday for a $3.82 million renovation of Ellis Lake Park, approved by the City Council. The project includes replacing and widening the lakeside path along B Street/Highway 70 with concrete sidewalks and a precast boardwalk, improving lighting, adding benches near fishing areas, and removing some trees. Funding comes from a $2.906 million Clean California Local Grant Program award through Caltrans plus approximately $918,000 in city funds, with construction contracted to TJR Resources, Inc. Mayor Chris Branscum said the city also hopes to restore fresh water flow to the lake and is pursuing a separate $700,000 grant for a pedestrian-bicycle path under railroad tracks at 14th Street. The park project is expected to be complete in roughly 12 months.
