Details Emerge in Marysville Save Mart Stabbing; Fundraiser Sunday 11 a.m.–2 p.m.

A Marysville Police Department affidavit details the alleged killing of Save Mart Assistant Manager Douglas L. Eid, 64, and stabbing of customer Robert Balderas by Samuel E. Hartbower, 33, at a J Street Save Mart store. Officers found Hartbower holding someone down with a 5-inch fixed-blade knife nearby; two methamphetamine pipes were recovered during his arrest. The Yuba County District Attorney's Office stated evidence indicates Eid was attempting to stop a theft when attacked. Hartbower pleaded not guilty in Yuba County court on Oct. 13 and is held without bail. A community fundraiser for the Eid and Balderaz families, organized by the 4G Foundation and sponsored by local Yuba-Sutter businesses, is scheduled Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Save Mart on J Street.
