The Tahoe-Pyramid Trail organization is conducting a feasibility study to bridge the remaining 21 miles of the 114-mile trail connecting Lake Tahoe and Pyramid Lake. Funded by a federal grant through the Nevada Department of Transportation, the study aims to determine routes for challenging segments in Nevada, including crossings over rivers and railroads. The project, which is currently 81% complete, seeks to provide alternative transportation options to ease congestion from USA Parkway commuters. Results are expected mid-2027, followed by easement acquisition and fundraising estimated at $100-150 million.

The North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District may conduct pile-burning operations during the week of October 19, 2026, weather and fuel conditions permitting, with burns expected to continue through the winter. Residents and visitors in the area may see smoke from these controlled burns. NLTFPD will announce burn locations via social media and Prescribed Fire Notification/Smoke-Sensitive email groups. Officials ask residents not to call 911 for announced burns; call 911 only if smoke appears to be from an unannounced fire or there is an immediate threat.
