The U.S. Justice Department sued California to sequester roughly 20,000 ballots from alleged noncitizen voters and charged 28 California legal permanent residents with voter fraud on Oct. 19, arresting 11. A federal judge rejected the ballot-sequestration demand Oct. 28, calling it unprecedented coercion of a state; a federal appeals court upheld that ruling Oct. 30. The dispute also includes subpoenas to California election officials for Nov. 4 grand jury appearances and multiple lawsuits by voting-rights groups challenging federal actions ahead of the Nov. 3 midterm election.

Proposition G on San Francisco's November ballot would reopen the Upper Great Highway between Lincoln Way and Sloat Boulevard to vehicle traffic on weekdays while keeping it closed on weekends and holidays. The two-mile stretch was permanently closed to cars by Proposition K in November 2024 and reopened as Sunset Dunes park five months later. Supporters of Prop G cite traffic congestion and safety concerns on residential streets, while opponents point to recreational benefits and increased business activity near the park. District 4 Supervisor Alan Wong supports reopening weekday access, while some local businesses oppose the measure.
