SF Educators Accompany Families to Immigration Court Hearings Amid Enforcement Surge
San Francisco Unified School District educators from over 20 schools have accompanied parents and unaccompanied minors to more than 130 immigration appointments and court hearings since January, according to the nonprofit Faith in Action, which trains participants. The initiative responds to a nearly 70% increase in ICE arrests across the San Francisco Bay Area compared to 2025, per the Deportation Data Project at UC Berkeley. Educators provide emotional support and translation services at hearings held at 630 Sansome Street, where many SF immigration court proceedings take place. Approximately 150 educators have been involved in the program over two years, with Faith in Action co-director Matt Alexander confirming participation from multiple schools.
