Sunday Crash Blocks Eastbound I-80 Lanes Near Newcastle Road in Placer County
A collision between a gray Chevrolet Silverado and a semi-truck blocked lanes on eastbound Interstate 80 just east of Newcastle Road in Placer County at approximately 1:49 p.m. Sunday, according to the California Highway Patrol. The Silverado made an unsafe turning movement, struck the semi's front tire, veered off the roadway up an embankment and overturned onto its roof in the third lane. The male driver was trapped inside and removed by emergency personnel with suspected major injuries; a female passenger suffered minor injuries. CHP Officer Mike Hamilton of the Auburn office said the collision remains under investigation. Caltrans had not provided an estimated reopening time, and motorists were urged to use alternate routes.
