Supreme Court to Hear Montgomery County MD Middle School Admissions Case
The Supreme Court agreed Monday to hear a case challenging race-related factors in admissions to four selective magnet middle schools in Montgomery County, Maryland. A parent group called the Association for Education Fairness alleges the district's admissions policy disadvantages Asian American students while boosting Black and Latino enrollment. The court will decide whether the parents have sufficient evidence of discrimination for their lawsuit to proceed after the Fourth Circuit affirmed dismissal. The school system, which educates more than 150,000 students, maintains its current "Pandemic Plan" lottery is race-neutral. Arguments are expected in the coming months.
