DOJ Election Monitors to Visit Minnehaha County Polling Places Nov. 3
Secretary of State Monae Johnson announced that the U.S. Department of Justice is sending federal election observers to Minnehaha County polling places for the general election. The observers are assigned to ensure compliance with national voting and accessibility rights. South Dakota ACLU Advocacy Manager Samantha Chapman raised concerns about potential voter intimidation, while Minnehaha County Auditor Leah Anderson said DOJ officials promised observers will identify themselves, carry no firearms, and follow state and local election laws. On election day, polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., with absentee voting available every weekday beforehand.
