High Tide Flooding Hits Bay Area; Coastal Advisory Extended Through Friday
High tide flooding continued across the Bay Area on Tuesday, causing road closures and stranded vehicles in Corte Madera, Southern Marin, and the Palo Alto Baylands. Water covered portions of Fifer Avenue, Tamal Vista Boulevard, and Golden Hind Passage in Corte Madera, reaching ankle depth or more in some areas. Marin County Emergency Management Director Steven Torrence called the event a "trial run" for king tides expected in November, December, and January, which could reach 9 to nearly 10 feet due to El Niño effects. Officials have prepared 45,000 sandbags and added a new sandbagging machine for distribution, while urging residents in vulnerable areas to take protective steps before higher tides arrive later this year.
