High Tides Create Bay Area Flood Risk Through Saturday
The National Weather Service issued an advisory warning that high tides could cause minor flooding in low-lying coastal areas across the San Francisco Bay Area through Saturday, affecting roads, infrastructure and beaches. At the San Francisco tidal gauge, high tide is forecast to peak at 1.9 feet above normal Wednesday, reaching 7.7 feet above mean lower low water. In Mill Valley, unusually high tides pushed seawater onto Shoreline Highway on Monday, forcing closures and stranding drivers. NWS warned that rising water could contribute to coastal erosion and make it harder for people to leave coastal areas safely. Officials urged residents to sign up for emergency alerts, prepare go-bags, and have evacuation plans in place before winter storms arrive.
