Class-Action Lawsuit Alleges Unconstitutional Conditions at Indiana Immigrant Detention Facility
A class-action lawsuit filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Indiana alleges unconstitutional conditions at the Miami Correctional Facility in Bunker Hill, Indiana, where ICE has detained immigrants since 2025. Filed by the ACLU of Illinois, ACLU of Indiana, National Immigrant Justice Center, and MacArthur Justice Center, the suit claims detainees face inadequate medical care, prolonged solitary confinement, unsanitary conditions, and alleged physical abuse. The complaint alleges at least two immigrant deaths at the facility in the past year linked to insufficient medical attention. Many detainees processed through Chicago-area ICE facilities are sent to the Indiana prison, with the rate rising from 2.5% during Operation Midway Blitz to nearly 15% afterward. The Department of Homeland Security and Indiana officials did not respond to requests for comment.
