FBI Investigating Suspicious Letters Sent to Three Arizona Congressional Offices
Suspicious letters, some containing unknown substances, were sent to the Arizona offices of U.S. Reps. Adelita Grijalva, Yassamin Ansari, and Greg Stanton, with the letter addressed to Stanton's Mesa office intercepted before delivery. The FBI Phoenix field office and Arizona Department of Homeland Security notified the lawmakers, who said they would not be intimidated. The incident follows an Oct. 15 nationwide threat wave that targeted more than 100 political organizations and elected leaders, including an evacuation of the Secretary of State's Office due to white powder in an envelope. The FBI and U.S. Postal Inspection Service are investigating multiple suspicious mailings sent to election offices and congressional offices nationwide, approximately two weeks before the Nov. 3 midterm elections.
