AZPM Weekly Roundup: Border Wall Protests, Tucson Microschools, Upcoming Celtic Festival Oct 23-25
A federal criminal charge is being pursued against a woman who occupied a centuries-old cottonwood tree in Lochiel to protest border wall construction, after federal agents removed her and demolished the tree. Contractors were expected to begin uprooting sacred saguaros on the Tohono O'odham Nation for border wall fencing on Oct. 12 but did not appear that day. In Tucson, microschools led by former public school teachers are serving neurodivergent students, though proponents worry state voucher reforms could slow growth. Upcoming local events include AZPM's election coverage starting Wednesday Oct. 21, a Press Room special airing Friday Oct. 23 at 6 p.m. on PBS 6, and the Tucson Celtic Festival & Scottish Highland Games Oct. 23-25 at Rillito Park Race Track.
