Maricopa County Sheriff's Office Runs Daily R.U. OK Check-In Calls for Older Adults Living Alone
The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office operates the R.U. OK program, which places up to three computerized daily calls to older adults living alone in the Phoenix area. If a resident does not answer after multiple attempts, deputies are dispatched to their home. Sun City Posse Chaplain Don Erlitz described the system, which asks participants to press one button if they are OK and another if they need assistance. The program aims to reduce risks associated with falls and medical emergencies among seniors living solo.
