Registered Sex Offender Accused of Posing as Teen to Enroll in Maple Grove High School
A 29-year-old registered sex offender identified as Makayla Craig was arrested after allegedly attempting to enroll at Maple Grove Senior High School in Maple Grove, Minnesota, by posing as a 17-year-old homeless youth from Oregon. Maple Grove Police credited school staff for their alertness and quick notification of a school resource officer; police confirmed Craig never completed enrollment and was never present on campus as a student. Craig has prior convictions including sexual abuse of a minor (2023) and a 2024 Oregon sentence for a similar impersonation attempt at another high school. Bail was set at $200,000 without conditions or $100,000 with conditions requiring a mental health evaluation, no contact with minors, and staying three blocks from K-12 schools.
