LVJUSD Board Votes 4-1 to Designate October as LGBTQ+ History Month

The Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District board voted 4-1 on Tuesday to designate October as LGBTQ+ History Month for the first time, a resolution intended to affirm support for LGBTQ+ students and encourage learning about their historical contributions. The item drew more than 100 written comments from residents of Livermore and beyond, with the majority in favor; opponents included Area 3 board candidate Deborah Gibson and Cathryn Villasenor, who called the recognition exclusionary. Superintendent Tony Limoges agreed to develop clearer procedures for future requests for district-wide observances.
