Live Oak Cuts Sheriff Patrol Staffing in Half Effective Dec. 1
Live Oak will reduce Sutter County Sheriff patrol staffing from two deputies to one deputy on duty around the clock under a new contract effective Dec. 1, according to the Sutter County Sheriff's Office. The city canceled its prior contract in October 2025 due to budget constraints, with City Manager Ben Moody citing $3.5 million in expenditure reductions. The new agreement includes four deputy positions, one sergeant, and dispatch services, running through Nov. 30, 2027. Starting Nov. 4, the city will test Readyly, an AI-powered platform handling non-emergency reports such as abandoned vehicles, loud music, parking violations, and vandalism.
