Live Oak Police Response Reduced Starting Dec. 1

The Sutter County Sheriff's Office posted a priority list of calls it will and won't respond to in Live Oak under a reduced-level contract effective Dec. 1, following the city council's vote to end its police services contract amid a nearly $2 million budget deficit. Staffing drops from two deputies to one on a 24-hour model, with four total deputies and one sergeant serving about 9,400 residents. DUI reports, theft, trespassing, non-injury crashes, and suspicious circumstances will not receive deputy response; homicides, assaults, carjackings, and robberies get first priority. Live Oak purchased an AI platform called Readyly to handle routine inquiries during the transition.
