15-Year-Old Girl Killed Crossing Racetrack Road; Driver Charged
A 15-year-old girl identified as Torrianne Mortensen died Oct. 21 after being struck while riding an electric scooter in a marked crosswalk on Racetrack Road near Saguaro Park Trail in Las Vegas, police said. A southbound 2012 Nissan Rogue driven by 64-year-old Michael Stanton passed stopped vehicles and entered the crosswalk without stopping, hitting the teen around 3:08 p.m. Stanton was charged with vehicular manslaughter, failure to exercise due care for a pedestrian, and overtaking a vehicle stopped at a crosswalk. Police said impairment and speed were not factors; the driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
