Clark County Coroner Identifies Unsolved Homicide Victim Found in Barrel at Lake Mead
Clark County Coroner Melanie Rouse identified Edward Lelburian Jackson, an Arkansas man in his mid-to-late 50s, as the homicide victim whose remains were found in a rusted barrel on a Lake Mead shore by boaters in 2022 after drought lowered water levels. Jackson was shot once in the head and killed in the early 1980s; identification relied on genealogy profiling of a bone sample and composite facial renderings. Las Vegas Metropolitan Police homicide investigators say there is no confirmed tie to organized crime despite the barrel's mob-era connotations, though they have not ruled it out. The case remains open, with detectives continuing to investigate why Jackson was in Las Vegas.
