Huntington Leaders Condemn KKK Halloween Costume Ride
A couple riding horses through Huntington, Indiana residential neighborhoods in Ku-Klux-Klan costumes during Saturday trick-or-treating prompted formal condemnations from Mayor Richard Strick, Huntington County Commissioners Rob Miller, Terry Stoffel and Tom Wall, and State Senator Nick McKinley. The woman pictured defended the costumes as a Halloween choice, said she and her boyfriend are not Klan members or racists, and alleged she and her family have received threats including death threats and threats to steal horses. Community leader Roderick Parker, founder of Big Hearts Community Projects, offered an open invitation for face-to-face dialogue with the couple and local leaders to promote education and unity. The woman said she would consider the meeting after discussing it with her boyfriend.
