Hoboken Council Repeals Waterfront Sound Permit Ordinance
The Hoboken City Council voted on October 7 to repeal its outdoor amplified sound permit ordinance for the I-1W Waterfront Industrial Zoning District. The measure, originally passed on September 2, required permits and sound mitigation plans for businesses and events in the uptown waterfront area. City officials cited potential conflicts with New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection regulations as a reason for the reversal. Mayor Emily Jabbour and Second Ward Councilwoman Tiffanie Fisher stated they will collaborate with the NJDEP to develop new noise legislation by next spring while strengthening enforcement of existing laws.
