ICE Officer Indicted for Striking Man With Car in Houston
A Harris County grand jury indicted U.S. ICE officer Mario Alberto Morales, 33, on Friday for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after he struck and ran over Miguel Parra Hernandez, 48, during a parking-lot pursuit on Oct. 10 in Houston. District Attorney Sean Teare said body camera footage contradicts ICE's claim that Parra Hernandez ran in front of the vehicle; the victim suffered a broken leg, nerve damage, and chronic pain. Morales' attorney called the incident an accident and accused the DA of political motivation, while Teare described the evidence as among the clearest he has investigated. Parra Hernandez, who has lived in Harris County for more than 30 years with no deportation order or criminal record, remains in federal custody at a rehabilitation facility.
