Man Who Killed Deputy After Son's Police Shooting Convicted of Murder
Rodney Hinton Jr. was convicted Friday in Cincinnati of murder, reckless homicide and felonious assault for striking and killing retired Hamilton County Sheriff's Office Deputy Larry Ray Henderson Jr. with his car in May 2025 while Henderson directed traffic at a college graduation. The crash occurred hours after Hinton viewed body-camera footage showing a Cincinnati police officer fatally shoot his 18-year-old son, Ryan Hinton, during a chase; the officer was not charged and was found legally justified by the Hamilton County prosecutor. Hinton pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity, with his attorney citing a psychotic episode and schizoaffective disorder, while prosecutors argued he deliberately aimed at the deputy. Sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 16.
