Woodland police released approximately seven minutes of body-camera footage Friday showing the Sept. 18 confrontation that killed Luke Weaver near Johnston and Alice streets after a nearly two-hour standoff. Officers responded around 2 p.m. to a call from Weaver's mother, who reported he was armed with a rifle in their home; by officers' arrival he had switched to a handgun. At 3:08 p.m., Weaver fired three shots outside before stepping out again at 3:44 p.m. holding the weapon, at which point three officers opened fire after he did not comply with commands to drop it. Weaver was pronounced dead at the scene; no officers or residents were injured. The Davis Police Department is investigating under Yolo County's protocol for officer-involved critical incidents.
