The University of California, Davis School of Education will launch a four-quarter Master of Education degree and teaching credential program in July 2027, replacing its existing six-quarter Master of Arts pathway. The program includes hands-on student teaching placements in urban, suburban, and rural K-12 districts across the Sacramento region and prepares graduates for multiple-subject, single-subject, and bilingual credentials. Applications are currently open, with a scholarship priority deadline of Jan. 15, a general deadline of March 1, and late applications accepted through June 1 if space remains. University officials say the shortened program aims to improve affordability and accessibility amid California's teacher shortage, which has seen temporary teaching permits triple since 2012-2013.
