Possible Tornado, Golf Ball Hail Damage Central Arizona Communities
A possible tornado and severe storms struck central Arizona Wednesday night into Thursday, Oct. 22, causing significant damage in Heber-Overgaard, Navajo County, where the county sheriff reported minor injuries and property damage among the community of about 3,000 residents. Golf ball-size hail pummeled northern and central Arizona, shattering windows and denting cars, while strong winds toppled trees in Flagstaff and Mesa. Dozens of ponderosa pines over 30 feet tall fell in the Coconino National Forest northwest of Flagstaff. State Rep. Walt Blackman requested a state of emergency declaration for the affected area.
