Interior Secretary Visits Cochise County Copper Mine; Gunnison Announces Employee Benefits, Expansion
Interior Secretary Doug Burgum visited Gunnison Copper's Johnson Camp Mine in Cochise County on Tuesday, highlighting domestic copper production for defense and technology supply chains. The company announced it would award all employees a stake in the company, provide pay raises and a bonus program ahead of its anticipated debut on the New York Stock Exchange. President and CEO Craig Hallworth said operations would expand to ten times current Johnson Camp output, aiming to produce 10-15% of the country's copper for munitions and data centers. Copper was added to the U.S. Geological Survey's critical minerals list in November last year, and the U.S. relies on imports for roughly 45% of annual consumption.
