Six Flags Over Georgia Reopens Friday; Goliath Coaster Remains Closed After Fatal Fall

A 42-year-old Atlanta school employee, Hassan Jihad Ibn Kariem, fell from the Goliath roller coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia in Mableton on Monday and died. Police and a Georgia state regulatory agency are investigating the cause, while witnesses reported prior restraint problems on the ride. Eleven roller coasters across multiple parks—including Sea World Orlando in Florida and La Ronde in Montreal—have been temporarily shut down, nine sharing the same manufacturer (Bolliger & Mabillard) and similar "clamshell" restraint system as Goliath. Six Flags Over Georgia is set to reopen Friday, but the Goliath coaster will not be operating. A 2025 class-action lawsuit alleges Six Flags deferred park maintenance ahead of its merger with Cedar Fair; the company has not commented on restraint issues.
