Pittsboro Board Reviews First South Village Design Plans; Vote Set for November
Pittsboro's Board of Commissioners reviewed the first Section Design Plans for Chatham Park's South Village at its October 12 meeting, covering four sections totaling 1,300 acres south of Roberson Creek. Southern Land Company proposed approximately 1,750 housing units—including townhomes, cottages, apartments, and single-family homes—along with a 325,000-square-foot mixed-use activity area, 20 miles of greenway, and an 18-hole private golf course. About 7% of housing would be affordable, concentrated in apartments within the mixed-use center. A formal vote is slated for November following a two-week public comment period. The town's traffic model flagged Chatham Parkway, Moncure-Pittsboro Road, and other corridors as future congestion points, though Southern Land Company plans roughly half the 3,500 units permitted in the project area.
