Deputy Fatally Shoots Hostage-Taker Near Maury Correctional Institution in Greene County, NC
A deputy fatally shot a man who was holding a woman hostage with a weapon inside a vehicle around 11:20 a.m. Thursday (Oct. 15) on Moore Rouse Rd near Maury Correctional Institution in Greene County, North Carolina, according to the Greene County Sheriff's Office. The incident followed a two-vehicle crash involving an N.C. Department of Adult Correction K9 unit, whose truck was forced off the road and rolled over multiple times. Officials said deputies attempted to get the suspect to drop the weapon before one made what they described as "a safe shot," allowing the woman to escape uninjured. The N.C. State Bureau of Investigation is reviewing the shooting; the suspect's identity has not been released.
