Teacher Corrects Reports After Bend Elementary School Shooting
Becky Drury, a teacher wounded in last Thursday's shooting at Silver Rail Elementary in Bend, Oregon, issued a statement Wednesday correcting earlier reports that she shielded a student, saying the shooter was already at the door when she entered. Three children (ages 5, 8, and 11) and another teacher were killed by 16-year-old former student Griffin J. John II, who used a legally purchased pump-action shotgun. Another teacher threw her phone at the gunman and tackled him before he was shot by a father who followed him into the building. Schools in the district reopened Wednesday with dozens of officers present, while the Bend Police Department continues investigating, including serving search warrants at the suspect's home and on his electronic devices.
