Parents of Bend School Shooting Victim Hire Attorneys; Classes Suspended Mon-Tue
The parents of 5-year-old Rhoam Summer, killed in a Thursday shooting at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Oregon, hired attorneys Saturday to investigate the school's active-shooter protocols and how 16-year-old shooter Griffin J. John II acquired his 12-gauge shotgun. Three children (ages 5, 8, and 11) and one teacher were killed; a fourth student and another teacher were wounded. A law enforcement official told The Associated Press the gun was purchased by the shooter's mother, while Bend-La Pine Schools Superintendent Steven Cook said the district has invested in security cameras, door locks, fencing, and twice-yearly lockdown drills. Classes and activities were suspended Monday and Tuesday across the district with no reopening plan announced for Silver Rail.
