Vote-Scanning Malfunction Delays Westchester County Ballot Counting; Resumes 11 a.m. Wednesday
A programming glitch caused by a software update prevented vote-scanning machines throughout Westchester County, New York, from accepting paper ballots when polls opened Tuesday. Voters were instructed to place completed ballots in bags for later processing under police escort to a county warehouse. The Westchester County Board of Elections scheduled ballot counting to begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday. The delay affects the competitive NY-17 congressional race between GOP Rep. Mike Lawler and Democrat Cait Conley, with Westchester County being the more liberal-leaning portion of the district.
