Michigan Dem Primary Loser Stevens Endorses Republican Rogers Ahead of Tuesday Election
Michigan Democrat Haley Stevens, who lost the August U.S. Senate primary to Abdul El-Sayed, endorsed Republican Mike Rogers on Sunday after being uninvited from a planned joint church event with El-Sayed. Stevens attended Perfecting Church north of Detroit with Rogers while El-Sayed worshipped at a different house of worship with other Democrats. Michigan Democratic leaders, including state chair Curtis Hertel and Senate Leader Chuck Schumer, condemned the endorsement as a betrayal less than 48 hours before Election Day. The race for the seat held by retiring Democrat Gary Peters could determine Senate control during Trump's second term.
