U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan issued an order Monday requiring one-hour notification of any decision by the National Capital Planning Commission, National Park Service, or Department of the Interior before construction can begin on a proposed memorial arch at Memorial Circle in Washington, D.C. The government's notice states construction could commence as early as November 5, 2026, pending Planning Commission approval and final agency action. Three Vietnam veterans, an architectural historian, the District of Columbia, and Virginia have filed lawsuits challenging the project, which envisions a structure more than 12 stories high featuring a bronze Lady Liberty statue. Chutkan consolidated the cases and set a joint briefing schedule tied to the Planning Commission meeting.

The Kennedy Center announced Monday that Paul Anka, David Foster, Andy Garcia, David Mamet and Barbara Mandrell will be recognized at the 2026 Kennedy Center Honors. For the first time, the ceremony will be held away from the Kennedy Center venue, taking place Dec. 7 at Washington's Capital One Arena. The move comes as President Trump is in a federal court battle over plans to renovate the building and add his name to it. The Kennedy Center has been closed with no performances on its stages for months amid that dispute.
