Retired Pilot Donates $400K to Buy Neil Armstrong's Boyhood Home in Wapakoneta
Ken Schreiber, a retired U.S. Air Force and American Airlines pilot from Dayton, donated $400,000 to the Auglaize County Historical Society to purchase Neil Armstrong's boyhood home at 601 W. Benton St. in Wapakoneta, Ohio. The sale was scheduled to be finalized Monday. The historical society plans to restore the two-story home to its 1940s appearance and open it for public tours by 2030, marking the 100th anniversary of Armstrong's birth. Society president Gerald Siesel said the organization has begun researching the home's original layout and discussing renovation funding with community leaders.
