State Allocates $1.5M to Ukiah Park, Boonville Fairgrounds Improvements

California has allocated $600,000 in state funding for improvements to Oak Manor Park near Oak Manor Elementary School in Ukiah, including a new playground, ADA-accessible bathroom, pickleball courts, and a community garden, with groundbreaking expected in Spring or Summer 2027. A separate $900,000 allocation will fund drinking water infrastructure improvements at the Mendocino County Fairgrounds in Boonville, which also serves as an emergency response hub for fire camps and evacuations. State Sen. Mike McGuire announced the park funding, while Assembly member Chris Rogers helped secure the fairgrounds investment. Ukiah Library Friends Address Budget Cuts, Plan New Bookmobile for Fall 2027

The Friends of the Ukiah Library report that approximately $25,000 in budget cuts—more than half the acquisitions budget—are reducing new books, newspaper subscriptions, CDs and DVDs at the Ukiah Branch of the Mendocino County Library. The organization, which supports programs serving roughly 650 daily visitors, is seeking volunteers, donations, and members ($15/year for seniors, $25 general) to offset shortfalls. Two major capital needs are underway: a new bookmobile (RFP complete, vendor selected, expected by fall 2027 at an estimated $800,000) and, longer term, a larger facility replacing the current 14,000-square-foot building with one of about 20,000 square feet. The Friends also accept book donations on the first Friday and Saturday of each month and run ongoing programs including tech assistance twice weekly, gardening exchanges, and children's literacy initiatives.
