CWD Found in Deer Hunt Area East of Grand Teton National Park
The Wyoming Game and Fish Department confirmed a positive chronic wasting disease case in a hunter-harvested adult mule deer buck in Hunt Area 156, directly east of Grand Teton National Park. The area is bounded by the Gros Ventre River, Continental Divide, Fish Creek, and Teton park, and is bordered by four other CWD-positive hunt areas. Game and Fish spokesperson Raegin Akhtar said the find was "not entirely unexpected" and encouraged hunters to consider testing harvested animals. There is no mandatory CWD testing in Hunt Area 156, but the department follows CDC guidance that hunters should not consume meat from CWD-positive animals.
