Alabama Man Charged with Arson at Senatobia Police Headquarters

Garrick Rawls, a civil rights activist from Huntsville, Alabama, was charged Monday with federal arson in connection with a Halloween-day fire that damaged the Senatobia, Mississippi police headquarters. Security cameras recorded a masked man smashing through a window just after 4:30 a.m. Saturday, emptying a canister in the lobby and igniting it before fleeing on foot. The attack followed months of protests over the June fatal shooting of 1-year-old Kohen Wiley by a Senatobia police officer responding to a shoplifting call. A state investigation found no criminal wrongdoing by the officer, though Wiley's family disputed the use of force. Rawls was located in Huntsville wearing a large bandage and walking with a limp; investigators recovered a partially burned boot, latex gloves, a hammer, and a gas-can nozzle at the scene.
