Mississippi AG Finds Senatobia Officer's Force Justified in Shooting That Killed 1-Year-Old
The Mississippi Attorney General concluded that a Senatobia police officer was justified in firing into a moving vehicle during a mid-June shoplifting call at a Walmart, killing 1-year-old Kohen Wiley and wounding another woman. The child's mother denied stealing anything, and neither she nor her friend have been charged. Civil rights attorney Ben Crump, representing the family, cited a preliminary independent autopsy indicating the boy was shot from the side of the car rather than the front, contradicting officers' claims the vehicle drove toward them. Authorities have not released body-worn camera footage to support the AG's finding. The article notes prior incidents between Senatobia police and Black residents that have eroded community trust.
