The City of Modesto outlined traffic-safety improvements along Coffee Road after a pedestrian was struck near Floyd Avenue on Sunday and hospitalized in stable condition. The crash followed one just over a week earlier in which two teenage girls were killed while walking near Downey High School on the same road. Residents cited poor lighting, high vehicle speeds, and a lack of pedestrian infrastructure as ongoing hazards. The city pointed to its April Safe Streets and Roads for All action plan, a recently authorized grant-funding application, and a Coffee Road pavement rehabilitation project—including new signage, striping, bike lanes, and pedestrian improvements—expected to be completed by the end of the year.
